Focus on Complex Lyricism Apparent Among Generation Unknown

By Amir Said (Sa’id)

Since my son, Amir Ali Said, was 6 years old, I’ve always said that by the time he turned 16, there’d be a wholesale departure from complex lyricism, followed by a towering return. Last Saturday, my son made 14. A couple of days after his birthday, I went to his blog (Amir13.com) and read an article he wrote about an AZ song. Granted, my son has studied rappers (and beatmakers) since he was 4 years old; but still, it feels good to see how serious he’s taking his hip hop/rap studies. Indeed, if and when he decides to further pursue the art of rapping, he will be one of the most incredible lyricists the art form has ever heard…

Below, I’ve included this video of a fellow young Brooklyn rapper, the Astronomical Kid. Watching this “kid,” I can’t help but be impressed by the youngin’s presence, comfort, genuine confidence, and vocal tone.

(In some ways, the video below reminds me of a video I shot of my son rhyming, when he was 11 years old. In that video I saw the rhyming potential that could take my son league’s past my own rapping abilities…)
