Popular Bob James sample gets RZA treatment.
Bob James is one of the most sampled musicians in hip hop. His song, “Nautilus” is one of the most sampled tracks in hip hop history. Having been credited as SourceMaterial for over 200 hundred songs, it’s given birth to hip hop classics like: Slick Rick’s “Children’s Story,” Eric B. & Rakim’s “Follow The Leader,” and The Main Source’s “Live At The Barbecue.” However, it’s the “Nautilus” flip that came twenty years ago today that stands out the most to me. Produced by RZA for Ghostface’s debut album, Ironman, “Daytona 500” feels and sounds like it’s namesake (the prestigious NASCAR race). This fast-paced track forces Ghostface, Raekwon & Cappadonna to bring their A game, and they do not disappoint.
