Jimi kicks off Slprcampsundays in style with new track.
Jimi Tents is one of the refreshing voices in hip hop today. Since the release of his LP, 5 O’Clock Shadow, he’s been on a tear. After touring with Justin Bieber and selling out a Pigeons & Planes show, he’s accomplished a lot this year. Today, he’s released “400,” a new track apart of Slprcampsundays (a weekly music ritual started by his Sleepercamp crew.) I originally heard “400” during his set at the Pigeons & Planes show back in July. He debuted it shortly after performing some of his hits during a lively set. The four minute track was just as relevant then as it is now.
On “400” Jimi rhymes about a variety of issues that have plagued American culture: slavery, institutional racism, and police brutality. A testament to his range, his music can be equally political and fun. Jimi is the first up in an array of Sleepercamp releases over the next few weeks. I look forward to seeing what the rest of the crew has to offer.
