Five Joints that Pulled Me Into Beatmaking
By Amir Said (Sa’id) |
There are MANY songs that inspired me to want make beats. I was thinking about some of those songs and wanted to share them with everybody. Here’s probably my top 5 or so; what’s yours?
1. “Lookin’ at the Front Door” – Main Source; produced by the Large Professor
2. “Manifest” – Gang Starr; produced by DJ Premier
3. “Road to the Riches” – Kool G. Rap & DJ Polo; produced by Marley Marl
4. “T.R.O.Y.” Pete Rock & CL Smooth; produced by Pete Rock
5. “Eye Know” – De La Soul; produced by Prince Paul (I really dug this joint).
Special note about this song. In a recent interview, Prince Paul says that it was actually Posdnuos (a member of De La) who put the beat together!
i started making hip-hop in (i seem to recall) ’86, and if i had to choose 5 tracks as catalysts (specifically for my hip-hop produce) i’d probably say –
1, looking for the perfect beat – soul sonic force
2, breakin in space – keymatic
3, 19 – paul hardcastle
4, marley scratch – mc shan
5, jam on revenge – newcleus
i the t,
Looking for the Perfect, yes inDEED…
