Chicago and New Jersey join forces over H.N.I.C. produced beat.

When you discuss Chicago rapper/producers, Chris Crack deserves to be in the conversation. A consistent force in the underground rap scene, Crack started to gain significant attention in 2013 when he released his Kitchen in the Bassment mixtape. The following year, Kickin’ It Wit TW furthered his profile. By 2015, with a new steady influx of fans, he’d go on to release his latest project, Public Domain 4. Since the release of his successful mixtape, Crack has continued to release Soundcloud one-offs. His latest track, “Spiked Lemonade,” caught my attention.

On “Spiked Lemonade” Crack called on fellow Chicago emcee Weasel Sims and New Jersey native Jae Haze for help. The three rappers trade bars over a Willie Hutch vocal-stabbing sample. Crack’s verse sets the tone early; Sims and Haze follow suit and bring their own flavour of intensity. Produced by H.N.I.C., “Spiked Lemonade” is a soulful sample-based joint with solid lyricism. I could see this song blasting through a lot of speakers this summer.

The music and video below is presented here for the purpose of scholarship.
