One Of The Hardest Working Men In Beats Today Gives Window Into His World Of 300 Songs Per Year

By Amir Said (Sa’id)

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Statik Selektah… Statik Selektah is a beatmaker’s “beatmaker.” A skilled producer with the grunt sensibility of the most raw beatsmith. Mention his name to those who know him—even in passing—, and you’ll no doubt hear about both his beatmaking range and his ability to smoothly navigate through the business dimension of hip hop/rap music.

A humble dude always up to talk shop, Statik Selektah has spent more than a decade learning and working to get to the point that he is, and fortunately, he’s not done. In this video, the Boston bred Brooklyn based music-maker/entrepreneur speaks about everything from how Styles P and Talib Kweli rocked on a beat of his that Kanye West had originally recorded to; to why we might get to hear he and Saigon’s All In A Day’s Work 2; to what he’s learned from DJ Premier; to how the “internet age” wrongly makes many people believe that they’re ready.
