*Live-Band Beatmaking* at It’s Best

By Amir Said (Sa’id)

Sometimes, stripping it down to the funkiest, tightest, hardcore groove is the answer. And The Roots have long understood this very notion. Aside from The Roots (and perhaps Rage Against the Machine), I haven’t been a big fan of the *live-band hip hop/rap* aesthetic. But I have always favored The Roots.

The Roots don’t as much as try to offer an alternative interpretation of hip hop/rap music’s base compositional tradition as they do pay homage to it. Over the balance of all of their material, they have steadfastly maintained a strong connection to the rhythmic and sonic nuances of hip hop/rap music, just as much as they have sought to shine lights on the various directions hip hop/rap music can take. Absolutely dope…

And I should also add that their visuals always push the thought button; as evidenced by their latest music video.
