the skill of a recording artist is not in his staying power (over an audience), but in his ability to create something you haven’t quite heard before…

    i the t,
    Huh?
I have accepted—no, embraced—your role as the resident “devil’s advocate,” but come on, this is just *one* clear sentence about the staying power of a recording artist! In an interview, someone asked me about what I thought the staying power of a recording artist was, with regard to “new” and “old” music scenes. This post was my answer. The question wasn’t about “the skill of a recording artist,” nor is that what I’m even getting at here. Moreover, it’s implicit in my post that creating something “new” is part of it. So I’m perplexed by your comment. It’s like you’re disagreeing just to disagree…even though all I referenced was a recording artist’s ability to reference (reconcile) the old and new.
Listen, I don’t expect everyone to agree with everything that I have to say; in fact, I embrace debate and similar exchange. However, I now get the feeling that when you read whatever I write, you look for *something* to disagree with. I really do not think that that’s helpful to any sort of dialogue that I aim for on BeatTips.com. I use my blog to share information and to educate—when and however I can. When I’m inaccurate about something, I openly encourage readers, here on my blog and in the forums, to correct me. But come on, my quote here isn’t even about what you purport to disagree with: I NEVER said that the “the skill of a recording artist is in his staying power (over an audience)…”

    come on man,
i think you take me a bit too seriously.
You are sharing thoughts, I am responding in kind.
A blogs function for me is one the one hand, to shoot the breeze, and on the other as a process of dialectic where one’s thesis is matched by an antithesis, thus leading to a synthesis ! (According to Hegel this is the way human concsiousness evolves)
do not mistake my glib posts for academic and austere proclamations, it’s just banter.
    Happy Easter.
